I don't know if you understood my feature request, but it's about having a caption above the news item list.<My website news:>

Oh yes, my apologies, I misread the preference 
Silly me.Perhaps a description field + shortcode added to news categories.
A couple of workarounds.
* Welcome message could be used, if you don't use that for your homepage.
* You could add the description to your theme.

I did add the description to my theme,but it was a pain in the butt
There were many things needed to be taking into account in order to only show the header on wanted occasions.
(based on e_QUERY, current e_PAGE and whatnot).
Also, the header section needed to be closed in the theme aswell, which would cause a lot of trouble if the news category list was also shown.)
